2023 | Lecture Series „Thinking Through Materialities“

The lecture series “Thinking through Materialities: Insights from and for Gender Studies and Cultural Anthropology” brought together international scholars to rethink materiality from an interdisciplinary perspective. The focus was on questions regarding how feminist, queer and cultural anthropological approaches can help the social sciences to gain a new understanding of material practices, care work and technologies. The series thus opened up new perspectives on the relationship between materiality, knowledge and social practice.

Under the title “Thinking (Further) Through Materialities”, the series continued in the fall semester of 2025, deepening the exploration of the material conditions of social thought and action. Once again, international scholars discussed how material practices from science, art and craft can open up new perspectives on society, knowledge and technologies. The focus was on questions concerning the ‘missing masses’ of the social, embodied knowledge, and the material interconnections between everyday life, the environment and AI.
