2016 | International conference: ‘At last! 50 years of women’s suffrage in Basel-Stadt’

To mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of women’s suffrage in Basel-Stadt, the Centre for Gender Studies and the Department of History at the University of Basel, in collaboration with the Swiss Society for Gender Studies (SGGF), organised an international conference. The conference focused on issues relating to women’s rights, human rights and democracy in a historical and global context. In keynote speeches and panel discussions, international and national experts examined the development of women’s political participation and the significance of women’s suffrage for current debates on gender equality and democracy.
