Roundtable Conversation with Hito Steyerl, Şener Özmen, Heja Netirk & Önder Çakar
Hito Steyerl is an artist, filmmaker, writer based in Berlin whose works explore art institutions in an age of planetary civil war, growing inequality,and proprietary digital technology. Steyerl’s video installations on the normalization of war are currently exhibited at the Kunstmuseum Basel Gegenwart.
Şener Özmen is an artist and writer whose works question the certainty of existing conditions and situations, authoritarian structures and existing taboos. In 2017, he was a resident fellow as part of the IIE Artist Protection Fund at Montclair State University. He currently resides in Berlin.
Heja Netirk is a Kurdish artist from Mardin who works in several genres. She has produced a film and is currently recording her own music album. At present, she lives in Germany as a refugee after fleeing from Turkey.
Önder Çakar is a screenwriter, actor and producer from Turkey. He is part of the Rojava Film Commune that was established after the war in Kobane. Its first feature film is Stories of Destroyed Cities (2016). Through the stories told the filmmakers underscore the devastating effects of modern wars.
