New publication by L. Zachary DuBois, Anelis Kaiser Trujillo, and Margaret M. McCarthy
Sex and gender are understood, measured, and applied in different ways across society and science; these questions have taken on heightened significance in the current political and legal landscape. To foster interdisciplinary dialogue and to promote informed applications in research, policy, medicine, and public health, over 30 scholars from a diversity of fields and backgrounds came together for a week-long Ernst Strüngmann Forum to advance thinking about sex and gender in science and health.
Synthesizing the interdisciplinary perspectives that emerged from these discussions, this open-access volume (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-91371-6) by L. Zachary DuBois, Anelis Kaiser Trujillo, and Margaret M. McCarthy explores the entanglement of sex and gender, suggesting that they are co-constituted in ways that have not been fully understood. Chapters examine entanglement from multiple perspective, explore challenges, and suggest ways to move forward in several key areas including basic and developmental systems biology, human biomedical and clinical research, and policy and practice.
The book should be of interest to policymakers as well as researchers working in anthropology, behavioral neuroendocrinology, cellular and molecular neuroscience, clinical psychology, epidemiology, biomedicine and health, and feminist, gender, and transgender studies.
